Walk *** - Early at Felixstowe Ferry.
As it’s the 1st day of a new month and the start of summertime I was keen
to head out early to take a few weather pics which seems a waste of time as
the local weather presenters on both the BBC and ITV have all but
disappeared meaning that fewer pics are used:( I was down at Felixstowe
Ferry just after 6 with some nice sunshine and light winds, I had a walk
around the boatyard taking the usual pics of boats on the Deben, I spotted
a heron and a hare on the golf course before stopping off briefly at the
Cliff Top car park and The Fludyers before returning home to sort out my
pics. Todays forecast was for a moderate southerly so when I had a message
from windsurfing mate Ian saying that he was hoping to go to Levington at
midday, I said I would keep an eye on the wind and let him know my plans?
So with the wind light I had breakfast in the garden with Mag before doing
my exercises in the sunny back garden :)
Windsurf * - The Manor at Felixstowe.
Then the wind picked up and Ian messaged that he was heading to Levington
at 11.30 but I said I would check out The Manor in Felixstowe first parking
easily at Squiz Lane just before midday and there was enough breeze to
tempt me out with a 5.75m. Launching easily just after half tide and had a
brilliant 2 mile flying run out which is when the session took a downward
step with the wind dropping. I slowly sailed back towards the shore, lucky
that it was still wind against tide, I did tack out again to have a close
look at a old barge sailing up the coast before slowly returning towards
the beach, I stupidly tried to tack near the beach with some large waves
rolling in and ended up in the water and had to swim my gear to the next
groyne to avoid the rocks but managed to get ashore with no problems and
called it a day!
PS – The Spotlight on Felixstowe was delivered this morning and it was
nice to be back on the cover:)
